Police have said the remains found in New Addington will be sent away for full analysis

Pictures from Rowdown Field in New Addington show a large police presence as specialist officers search the land after possible human remains were found. Met Police officers were called shortly after 9am on Tuesday, April 2, to reports of possible human remains that had been found at the scene.

A crime scene is in place and the entirety of the field is closed as the Met Police carry out enquiries. Officers, forensic experts and dog units are at the scene on Wednesday (April 3) after remaining at the location in New Addington overnight.

Superintendent Lewis Collins said on Tuesday: “We are aware of the concerns within the local community following the discovery of possible human remains in the Croydon area this morning. The remains will be sent away for full analysis.

“I would like to reassure you that officers remain on scene and we will be carrying out a number of enquiries over the coming days to establish exactly what has happened.

“While our investigation is still at a very early stage, I would ask that people do not speculate on the circumstances and will we update you as soon as we have further information.”
