Alejandro Garnacho has sent Manchester United a cryptic message ahead of a potential transfer to Chelsea. The 21-year-old winger continues to be heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as Enzo Maresca looks to bolster his attacking options this summer.
On the final day of last season, Ruben Amorim raised eyebrows when he dropped Garnacho from the matchday squad. The Argentina international was also benched in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur, despite having started each of the previous knockout round ties.
Garnacho has faced an uncertain future at Old Trafford ever since, and the Blues could be well about to secure his signature. football.london understands that Chelsea are in talks with United to sign the Argentine.
The west Londoners are long admirers of Garnacho, who wants to depart Old Trafford this summer. It’s understood that Chelsea considered making a move for the Argentine as recently as the January transfer window, but a switch never materialised.

As it stands, it remains to be seen whether or not the Blues will land Garnacho, who’s been training separately from the first-team. In the meantime, the youngster has sent United a cryptic message on social media.
On Monday afternoon, Garnacho uploaded a picture of himself in his home gym to his Instagram story. Keeping his cards close to his chest, the Chelsea target captioned the image with a sweating emoji.
Earlier this month, Amorim provided an update on Garnacho. He described the £39m-rated winger as a ‘talented boy’, who wants ‘a different thing with a different leadership’.
“I think Garnacho, you can understand and you can see, he’s talented, that he’s a really talented boy,” said the United boss. “And sometimes things don’t work out. You cannot explain specifically what it is.
“But I have the feeling, I think it’s clear that Garnacho wants a different thing with a different leadership. I can understand that. So I think it’s not a problem. Sometimes you adapt to one guy; you have the connection.
“Other times, you want a new challenge. So, we try to make everything okay to all parts. To the club, to the coach and to the [other] players. So, it’s a natural thing in football…”
While Chelsea officials chip away at a deal for Garnacho, Maresca has been putting his players through their paces ahead of the new Premier League season. The Blues enjoyed a 4-1 win over AC Milan on Sunday afternoon, with Liam Delap netting a brace.
“I think the performance was very good until the red card,” said Maresca, speaking to Channel 5 after the game. “We started the way we wanted – intense and with a high tempo on and off the ball.
“The red card changed a little bit the game but it’s also normal as Milan started pre-season 40 days ago and this was their sixth friendly. It’s our second one.
“But overall I’m very happy, and now we start the Premier League. I’m confident in general and excited. We have another long season ahead and we are going to try to do our best.”
