Alexander Isak has fired a three-word message ahead of Newcastle United’s opening pre-season clash against Hull City. Eddie Howe’s side will lock horns with the Championship outfit at the MKM Stadium next week, and the 24-year-old striker will be hoping to pick up from where he left off.

Taking to Instagram for the first time since July 2, Isak uploaded a picture of himself in the Magpies’ new training gear. The caption to the post, which tallied over 70,000 likes, reads: “Back at work [black heart emoji]!”

Last season, only Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer scored more goals than Isak in the Premier League. Despite nursing a groin injury during the festive period, the Sweden international still managed to find the net 21 times in 30 appearances.

His impressive performances for the Magpies courted interest from some top clubs across Europe, including Chelsea. Last month, the Blues reportedly enquired about the possibility of signing Isak as Newcastle looked to raise funds ahead of their Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSRs) deadline.

While Chelsea may appreciate the forward, football.london understands that the west Londoners are not planning a move for the Swede this summer. It’s believed that higher-ups are aware that Newcastle will demand a ‘staggering fee’ for Isak, so they’re ‘very unlikely’ to launch a bid.

In fact, football.london understands he could cost more than the £115m that Chelsea paid for Moises Caicedo last summer – and, currently, that’s not feasible. Nevertheless, Isak has already pledged his future to the Tyneside outfit.

In April, the Newcastle striker, who sees his contract at St James’ Park expire in June 2028, said: “Of course I want to be here in the future. I came here for the project, I absolutely love playing here, I really feel at home. I want to finish this season in a good way for me and the team. I love playing here.”

Eddie Howe has also expressed his desire to keep Isak. The Newcastle boss added: “He’s an outstanding talent and no one connected with Newcastle would want to lose him.”
