Andrea Berta and Mikel Arteta know what the next main Arsenal task is after reaching an agreement over a new contract for Myles Lewis-Skelly.
The 18-year-old’s current deal will expire next summer – but it’s now being widely-reported a long term extension has been agreed with official confirmation of that set to follow. Just a few weeks ago, the Gunners confirmed that Gabriel Magalhaes had also signed a new contract.
He was the latest in a long line of key Arsenal players to commit their future to the club, with Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and William Saliba all penning fresh terms in the last two years.
However, decisions are still being made on the respective futures of Leandro Trossard and Thomas Partey – with a concerning update on the latter emerging. According to Fabrizio Romano, talks over a new deal are not advancing and, as such, there is concrete chances he departs the Emirates Stadium as a free agent.
If that scenario does play out, having also lost Jorginho, it’s likely another midfielder is signed in addition to Martin Zubimendi, who is set to join from Real Sociedad.
Kepa Arrizabalaga is another Spain international expected to join with the goalkeeper also joining Kai Havertz and Jorginho as players to move from Chelsea to Arsenal. Once those two moves are confirmed, full focus can go on to the addition of a striker.
Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres are the two main options with a final decision on which name to pursue still needing to be made, despite the latter’s very public falling out with Sporting CP and an apparent agreement over personal terms for the RB Leipzig star.
A wide forward addition is another want for Arteta, with Rodrygo and Nico Williams as his two dream targets. Financial stumbling blocks appeared to be present for both and the latter is seemingly on his way to Barcelona.
Rafael Leao and Jamie Gittens are seen as alternatives with all four left-wingers and that is perhaps no surprise, especially as the perfect understudy and eventual replacement for Bukayo Saka is already at the club.
Ethan Nwaneri, like Lewis-Skelly, enjoyed his breakout season in 2024/2025, with opportunities coming his way following a plethora of attacking injuries, but he was carefully managed given his own fitness problems.
It is no surprise Arsenal also want to tie him down to a new longer-term contract – with that as their next priority looking inside the club. The teenager signed his first professional deal 15 months ago with a few more years plus a wage increase now likely to arrive, too.
