Ange Postecoglou is speaking to the media following Tottenham’s 3-1 win against Nottingham Forest on Sunday evening in the Premier League.
Postecoglou made one alteration to his Spurs team from the draw at West Ham with Pape Matar Sarr returning to the line-up at the expense of Rodrigo Bentancur. Tottenham needed to a victory to jump up into fourth spot on goal difference with a game in hand after Aston Villa’s 3-3 draw at home against Brentford.
To get all three points though they had to get past the team of ex-Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo, making his first return to the club since his ill-fated spell in 2021. The Portuguese was at the helm for just a handful of months before being replaced by Antonio Conte and he came back to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a Forest team that was unbeaten in its previous three matches.
The hosts took the lead just 15 minutes in as Timo Werner’s low ball across the six-yard box was diverted into the goal by Forest’s Murillo. It came after great work from Yves Bissouma in the build-up and was Spurs’ first first-half goal in their stadium in 2024.
Forest levelled though before the half-hour mark. They broke swiftly and Anthony Elanga found plenty of space to hit a low cross which deflected into the path of Chris Wood to stroke home. Both sides hit the woodwork as the first half came to an end and Postecoglou made two substitutions at the break, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on for Sarr and Bissouma.
Tottenham accordingly upped their efforts and were rewarded with two goals in quick succession. First Micky van de Ven sent a rocket of an effort into the net from just inside the Forest box. Then Pedro Porro added another soon after, connecting with a half-volley inside the area after Bentancur headed on James Maddison’s cross.
