Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen is reportedly set to turn down offers from both Chelsea and Arsenal this summer, favouring a move to Real Madrid instead. The player’s impressive performance with the Cherries has caught the attention of several top European clubs.
Having only spent a year on the south coast after his transfer from Juventus for just over £12million, it appears that the 20-year-old is ready for another move this summer. His £50million release clause at Bournemouth makes him an accessible target.
Recently capped by Spain, the former Malaga player could be heading to the country’s most prestigious club. Marca reports that Huijsen’s father has communicated to Real Madrid that they are his son’s preferred choice.
Chelsea, known for their strategy of pursuing younger talents, have reportedly already made an offer. However, as it stands, Huijsen seems to have his sights set solely on Real Madrid. Arsenal and Liverpool are also among the Premier League sides keeping tabs on the defender.
Real Madrid have also discovered that Huijsen’s release clause can be paid in three instalments, providing them with additional financial flexibility for their summer dealings. This would be a welcome development for their potential new head coach, Xabi Alonso, who aims to secure two signings before the Club World Cup commences next month, reports the Mirror.
Real Madrid had previously attempted to secure the signature of Huijsen back in 2021, but the rising star opted for Juventus instead. Nonetheless, Los Blancos’ top brass have kept up amicable ties with the player’s father, setting the stage for a potential move.
Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is undeterred by the prospect of key figures moving on, viewing it as an expected challenge. Expressing his stance, Iraola said: “We will focus on trying to improve the team, and add new players if we can, and if some player leaves because someone comes with what the club considers to be a good offer, we have to be ready for those situations, but not with fear. It is something that all the clubs, especially the ones who are not at the highest level like the top, top teams, have to get used to.”
