Arsenal and Chelsea target Benjamin Sesko has expressed his desire to join a club that can unlock his full potential as he contemplates a move this summer.
The 21-year-old Slovenian striker is attracting significant attention from the Premier League and is poised to see what proposals emerge for him in the forthcoming weeks. After a disappointing season that saw Leipzig finish seventh in the Bundesliga, missing out on European football, the club is set for a major overhaul of their squad and approach.
With financial considerations at stake, stars like Sesko and Xavi Simons are expected to be at the forefront of a potential mass departure. Currently in Brazil for a post-season friendly against Santos with Leipzig, Sesko spoke to German broadcaster Sport1 about his future aspirations.
He said: “The club has given me a lot and continues to give me a lot every day. It’s a great club to develop at.” Sesko also added that in the future, he wants to “play for a club that suits me, that brings out the best in me. That’s the most important thing for me.”
The Slovenia international continued: “I’m currently a player for RB Leipzig, so I’m taking it day by day. If a transfer happens, and if it doesn’t, then it doesn’t.”
football.london understands both Arsenal and Chelsea want to sign a new striker this summer, with Sesko among the players both clubs are tracking. Sesko netted 21 goals and provided six assists in all competitions during the 2024/25 campaign.
Sesko’s release clause is believed to be north of £66million (€80million), while other top target Viktor Gyokeres has a gentleman’s agreement with Sporting that would permit him to leave for a sum around £55million to £60million.
Arsenal are seen as the favourites for the Swede should they decide to pursue their interest, but they face competition for Sesko, with Chelsea also showing interest in the player. The Blues have prioritised signing a new striker after Enzo Maresca’s team secured Champions League qualification. However, Chelsea have also had promising discussions with Liam Delap, who’s available for £30million, while Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike is also highly regarded at the club.
Arsenal laid significant groundwork on a deal for Sesko last summer, but the young forward instead pledged his future to Leipzig, penning a new long-term contract ahead of the European Championships in Germany.
