Arsenal games Noni Madueke will miss after Mikel Arteta gives big injury update

Noni Madueke could miss up to 14 matches for Arsenal and England after suffering a knee injury during Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Manchester City.

The 23-year-old started the game but was taken off for Bukayo Saka at half-time. “He had an issue very early in the match and he wasn’t well enough to continue,” Mikel Arteta said in his post-match press conference.

According to The Athletic, scans showed on Monday that Madueke has avoided an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury but the former Chelsea man is still expected to be out for around two months.

Indeed, Madueke is now set to miss the next chunk of Arsenal’s fixtures, as well as three World Cup qualifiers and one friendly for England. The Gunners have four more matches before the next international break and then at least another six until the third two-week hiatus of the campaign.

In the immediate future, Madueke won’t be involved at Port Vale in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday and will miss the Premier League trip to Newcastle, as well as upcoming fixtures against Olympiacos and West Ham.

As the two-month window for Madueke’s recovery would finish at the end of the November international break, his first game back available could be against Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, November 23.

That would be quite the fixture for Madueke to return in, with the Gunners then going up against Bayern Munich in the Champions League and his ex-club Chelsea in a week that could be pivotal.

Madueke is the latest Arsenal forward to suffer an injury. Kai Havertz has been sidelined since sustaining a knee problem in mid-August, while Gabriel Jesus is still out after his ACL tear at the start of this year.

Arsenal remain without captain Martin Odegaard, who has struggled with a shoulder injury since the 5-0 win against Leeds United. The Gunners, however, are hopeful the Norway international will be back soon.
