With a little under two weeks left in the transfer window, Arsenal are at a crucial juncture as they look to finally get over the line in both the Premier League and Champions League this season.

Mikel Arteta’s squad have taken significant steps toward that goal this summer, with key additions including Martin Zubimendi and Viktor Gyokeres. However, the recent injury blow to Kai Havertz means Arsenal can ill afford to leave themselves short this season.

According to The Athletic, attacker Havertz is set for a spell on the sidelines with a knee injury. football.london understands Havertz suffered the injury against Manchester United at the weekend and the club are waiting for it to settle before being able to scan it to reveal the extent of any damage.

That means any potential timeline for Havertz to recover from the problem is yet to be determined, but The Athletic article notes that Arsenal are prepared to re-enter the market for reinforcements, despite not yet having offloaded any players.

Real Madrid’s Rodrygo is one name to have been tentatively linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer, although no concrete interest has yet materialised. The Brazilian appears to have fallen out of favour under Xabi Alonso, as reflected in his limited minutes at the Club World Cup and the fact he was an unused substitute in their La Liga opener against Osasuna on Tuesday night.

It remains unclear whether the player is ready to seek a move, with conflicting reports emerging from Spain throughout the summer. However, with the right offer on the table, it’s been suggested Madrid would be open to a sale.

Rodrygo would offer Arsenal a highly versatile option in the forward line, capable of playing on both flanks and centrally if needed. His preferred position is off the left, an area Arsenal have arguably needed to reinforce all summer.

With Gyokeres likely to start most matches, Rodrygo would still likely see regular minutes on the left. That said, he could also serve as an ideal alternative to Havertz due to his versatility, and his former manager Carlo Ancelotti has already explained why.

Speaking back in 2022, the former Madrid boss predicted that Rodrygo’s eventual role would be through the middle. The comment came amid concerns over Karim Benzema’s fitness at the time, and Ancelotti’s words arguably underline why Rodrygo should be high on Arsenal’s wishlist before the transfer deadline.

“If he [Rodrygo] reaches that level, then that will mean Real Madrid should build a statue of Rodrygo,” Ancelotti told the media three years ago. “He has so much potential. More as a centre-forward or behind the No.9 than as a winger. I think that’ll be his position.”

Where Arsenal turn next remains to be seen, especially with both Liverpool and Manchester City also rumoured to be in the frame should Rodrygo move on this summer. But the hole left by Havertz, should his injury prove serious, could make Arsenal the ideal destination for Rodrygo, while Rodrygo may just be the perfect fit for Arsenal.
