Arsenal signed off in style ahead of the October international break after recording their fourth successive victory in all competitions. The Gunners are now hitting their stride after navigating a cruel start to the campaign which included tricky away trips to Old Trafford, Anfield and St James’ Park.
But was it also a productive week for the club’s loanees? football.london takes a look. Jake Kiwior helped Porto to yet another clean sheet in O Classico on Sunday against Benfica, playing the entire 90 minutes.
The Pole has been a revelation since joining the Portuguese giants on an initial loan that will become permanent next summer for a fee worth up to £23.5million including bonuses. In fact, Porto are yet to concede in any of the five matches (450 minutes) Kiwior has started this season and they’ve conceded just once in their opening eight Primeira Liga games.
The centre-back actually sat out of Thursday’s 2-1 Europa League win over Red Star Belgrade as boss Francesco Farioli shuffled his pack ahead of facing rivals Benfica at the weekend.
Meanwhile, Fabio Vieira sat out of Hamburger SV’s 4-0 win over Mainz, in which Albert Sambi Lokonga bagged his first goal for the Bundesliga side, due to suspension. Vieira was recently sent off in a goalless draw with Union Berlin.
It’s been another tough week for ex-Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou at Nottingham Forest. The Aussie is still yet to win a match in charge of the Tricky Trees and Arsenal left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko was sidelined for defeats this week to FC Midtjylland and Newcastle.
The versatile full-back is suffering with a muscle injury and was left out of the Ukraine national team squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Iceland and Azerbaijan, respectively.
Winger Reiss Nelson was once again absent from the Brentford squad for their 1-0 defeat to Manchester City. He has been suffering from illness of late and was expected to be named on the bench but that did not happen.
Despite shipping four goals on his Bundesliga debut against Bayern Munich, there was some positive news for Karl Hein at Werder Bremen.
He marked his home debut with a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over St. Pauli. Fotmob gave him an 8.2 rating, higher than any other player, after he made three saves in the triumph.
Arsenal youth winger Ismeal Kabia completed 90 minutes for a third consecutive match in League Two with Shrewsbury, who drew 0-0 at Barrow. He was booked but already appears to be a key player for the EFL side.
Albanian defender Maldini Kacurri, 20, was back from suspension for Morecambe as they earned a 1-1 draw at Tamworth in the National League. The young centre-back played the full match.
Finally, Arsenal youth goalkeeper Lucas Nygaard’s Brabrand lost 3-0 at home to Naestved in the Danish second division, leaving them 11th (second from bottom) in the league standings.
