Bayern Munich are reportedly eyeing up Arsenal target Benjamin Sesko, viewing the striker as a potential successor to Harry Kane. Since his move from Red Bull Salzburg to RB Leipzig in 2023, Sesko has been in fine form, netting 39 goals in 87 appearances across all competitions.
The Gunners have shown interest in the 22 year old for some time, having tried to secure his signature last summer before he renewed his contract with Leipzig, and initial discussions about a summer move have already taken place.
However, Bayern could throw a spanner in the works, with Bild reporting that the Bundesliga champions also have their sights set on Sesko. The report suggests that Bayern also attempted to sign Sesko last summer and a move this summer is ‘not completely off the table’.
It’s suggested that Bayern are big admirers of the striker and would position him up front ahead of Kane, who would be moved back into the No. 10 role.
The report adds that Leipzig are seeking more than €100million (£85m) for Sesko, but are ‘willing to talk’ for a figure around €70m (£60m), reports the Mirror.
This news follows reports that Bayern are also keen on another Arsenal target. Mikel Arteta, the Gunners boss, is a big fan of Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams, but Sky Germany reports that the winger is open to a move to Bayern.
Leroy Sane recently made a free transfer to Galatasaray, with his Bayern contract expiring at the end of the summer, and it’s suggested that Williams could fill his boots at the Allianz Arena.
The report suggests that the potential transfer of Nico Williams is still in its infancy, with the Athletic Bilbao star’s release clause set at a hefty €60m (£51m). Bilbao’s president Jon Uriarte has recently spoken about Williams’ future, hinting at his desire for the forward to stay as part of their ambitious project.
“I believe we have a winning and interesting project for everyone, and Nico is part of that project, just like many other players,” Uriarte expressed to El Correo. “The project becomes easier if we keep our players – and I believe Nico and the rest of the squad have a very exciting year ahead.”
Williams himself reflected on his situation last summer, acknowledging the interest from other clubs but affirming his contentment at Bilbao: “Many teams want you, I’ve had many offers to do things that another player would have done, but I’m happy here, Bilbao is my home. My heart is red and white.”
He also shared insights into his decision-making process: “I had a talk with my parents and my brother, and we decided it was best to stay for another year.”
Despite this, Barcelona’s interest in Williams remains strong, with reports from Spain indicating that discussions have commenced between Barça and the player’s representatives.
