Arsenal failed to take advantage of their man advantage over Chelsea as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge in a Premier League derby thriller.

Arsenal and Chelsea played out a thrilling 1-1 derby draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon – as the Gunners moved five-points clear at the top of the table.

Mikel Merino levelled the scoring for the Gunners in the 59th minute after Trevoh Chalobah had put Chelsea ahead early in the second half. Enzo Maresca’s squad were also forced to play the majority of the match with 10-men after Moises Caicedo was sent off.

The draw means Mikel Arteta’s side remain clear at the top of the Premier League table after 13 games. Manchester City are five points behind after beating Leeds 3-2 on Saturday, with Chelsea one more behind.

Next week, Arsenal are in action twice as the hectic winter schedule continues. Arteta’s side welcome Brentford to the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night before travelling to Aston Villa, in fourth, on Saturday.
