Former Call the Midwife star Jack Ashton has shared a sweet tribute to his two young daughters following his split from Helen George. The 37-year-old, who played Rev. Tom Hereward in the BBC period drama, was in a relationship with Trixie Aylward star Helen after they met on set in 2016.

However, last year Helen announced that she had split from her actor partner Jack after seven years together. Speaking to The Mirror, the 39-year-old said: “Some months ago, we separated. Our two beautiful girls remain the focus and I respectfully ask for privacy for this next chapter.”

The former couple have since remained committed parents to Wren Ivy, 6, and two-year-old Lark. Taking to Instagram, doting dad Jack has shared a string of cute snaps of his two young girls and simply captioned the post: “Growing up.”

Friends and fans of the actor wasted no time in leaving flurries of compliments in the comments with one person writing: “Beautiful girls”. A second stated: “Little cuties.”

A third chimed in with: “Such precious girls!”, while another exclaimed: “Adorable!”, followed by a love heart emoji.

“Lovely darling girls! Such special moments captured in your heart!”, added another while one person said: “Yep time goes way too fast Enjoy.”

Jack played Tom Hereward in Call the Midwife from 2014 until his exit in 2018. However, he has gone on to star in some of television’s most popular shows, including McDonald & Dodds, The Chelsea Detective, Waterloo Road, Sister Boniface Mysteries, and Casualty. He has starred in the films Welcome to Curiosity and First.

In an interview with The Express in 2020, Jack revealed he would “consider” returning to Call the Midwife following his character Reverend Tom’s departure. The character left Poplar after the tragic death of his wife and nurse Barbara Gilbert (played by Charlotte Ritchie).

When asked about why he decided to move on from the series, Jack explained in reference to his character: “Well, technically, I haven’t left, I’m in Papua New Guinea grieving so I think it wasn’t necessarily that I decided to leave.

“I think it was more that it was just decided that it just felt like the right time for everybody. I think because obviously Tom had been through this kind of rollercoaster with Trixie [played by Helen George] and then he’d sort of met ‘the one’ with Barbara and then she’d so suddenly died.

“So he’s gone off to Papua New Guinea and you never know, he might come back in 1970 with long hair and strange ideas!” Meanwhile, Helen George still stars in Call the Midwife as Nurse Trixie Alyward.
