A police standoff is finally over 55 hours later with a man injured by a police dog this morning (Thursday, March 28). Police forced entry to the home on Daneby Street in Catford at around 2am after first rushing to the scene on Monday evening.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of making threats to cause criminal damage with intent to endanger life. There was nobody else at the address.

He was injured on his foot by a police dog and was taken to hospital as a precaution. There was no one else inside the address.

Police cordons will be in place for the “foreseeable” while enquiries are carried out. Locals are allowed back home now.

Detective Superintendent James Derham, from the local policing team in south-east London, said: “I would like to thank the local community for their co-operation and patience while this matter has been ongoing. I do not underestimate the impact this has had on their day to day lives, especially those who have been displaced.

“I can assure them that our priority has been to bring the matter to a safe conclusion for everyone involved as quickly as possible.”

Police were first called to the home at around 6.30pm on Monday (March 25) after concerns were raised for a man at an address. Part of the road was cordoned off while police specialists negotiated with the man.

It led to road closures in the area which caused disruption to road users. Police liaised with Lewisham council to minimise disruption.
