Chelsea set a Premier League record over the summer transfer window.
By football.london‘s calculations, Chelsea recouped £354.7million in total – with all add-ons and future fees (e.g. the obligation placed in Nicolas Jackson’s loan contract) included – over the course of the window. That is the highest figure for total sales by one club in Premier League history.
Chelsea ended up getting £14.2million as a loan fee for Jackson, who signed for Bayern Munich on deadline day, and there is a £56.2million obligation for the German champions to sign the 24-year-old permanently if certain conditions are met. football.london tried to find out what those were, but were informed they were classified between the two clubs in question.
The £70million Chelsea are set to receive for Jackson will be the most expensive of their sales this summer, but there have been other lucrative deals for the Blues as well. Noni Madueke was sold to Arsenal for a package of £52million, with Joao Felix going to Al-Nassr for £43.7million (after various add-ons) and Christopher Nkunku ended up at AC Milan for around £36million.
The Blues ended bringing in 11 players – with five of them being agreed prior to the summer window – and spending £339.77million after all add-ons are included. Joao Pedro ends up being the most expensive – and thus far, the most effective – signing of the summer with Chelsea paying Brighton £55million, plus £5million in future add-ons, for the Brazilian forward.
Jamie Gittens and Estevao Willian’s fees were not too far behind. Gittens cost Chelsea £55million in total, football.london understands, while the signing of Estevao saw the Blues give Palmeiras an initial £29million, but the package could end up costing £51million.
Overall, Chelsea ended up with a positive net spend of just under £15million. Of course, figures do vary across numerous outlets, but from football.london‘s understanding, Chelsea have ended up in profit after the summer transfer window despite 11 players coming through the door at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea head into the first international break of the season in second place in the Premier League table, with only champions Liverpool, who have a 100% record after the opening three matches of the campaign, better off thus far. The Blues have made a positive start despite not being at their scintillating best and given the fact they had a 13-day pre-season due to their involvement over the summer in the FIFA Club World Cup, that is perhaps to be expected.
Enzo Maresca has been given more depth in his squad this season but the Chelsea head coach may well be concerned with the striker situation in SW6. Liam Delap limped off with a hamstring injury during Saturday afternoon’s victory over Fulham and is expected to miss several weeks with the problem, leaving the Blues short in the No.9 position.
Joao Pedro has played the last couple of games in the No.10 role with Cole Palmer absent with a groin injury, but the Brazilian is now set to be put further up the pitch due to the situation. Marc Guiu spent 26 days on loan at Sunderland before he was recalled, while Tyrique George, whose deadline day switch to Fulham collapsed at the last minute, is also an option for Maresca.
