Chelsea could throw a potential spanner in Arsenal’s pursuit of Alexander Isak after it was claimed the Stamford Bridge outfit are interested in signing Joao Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion. The Brazil international is heavily tipped to leave the Seagulls this summer and has been linked with a move to Newcastle United.
However, Fabrizio Romano claims that despite the Magpies being current favourites to sign the forward, Chelsea have made “initial contact” with Brighton to be kept abreast of his situation at The Amex.
Earlier this week, talkSPORT reported that Newcastle “feared” their move for Pedro could be “hijacked” by Chelsea, who have already signed Liam Delap from Ipswich Town this summer for around £30million.
The 23-year-old Pedro is reportedly valued at £70million by Brighton, although Newcastle are “cautious” of being dragged into a bidding war for the player.
football.london understands that Chelsea hold an interest in Pedro this summer with the player one of a number of potential targets. The Blues have been in contact with the Seagulls over a possible move for the forward.
And so if Newcastle miss out on a move for Pedro, then it could spell bad news for Arsenal. That’s because it has been speculated that the Magpies could allow Isak to leave if they sign Pedro.
However, if Chelsea were to win the race for Pedro, it would almost certainly finish the Gunners’ hopes of signing the forward. Isak is admired by several clubs around Europe, but continues to be linked with moves to Arsenal and Liverpool.
The Sweden international is under contract at St James’ Park until 2028.
