Chelsea could be set to benefit from Manchester United agreeing to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig for a significant fee.
The Blues have signed two strikers this summer but never really considered Sesko with Victor Osimhen, Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak, Jonathan David and Viktor Gyokeres all linked before both Joao Pedro and Liam Delap officially joined.
Roughly £90million was spent to sign the duo, with both going on to make an impact in the Club World Cup, and the prize money from winning that competition saw the Blues recoup that sum. That allowed for more to be spent on other additions with Jamie Gittens and Jorrel Hato arriving later in the window.
Having also sold Djorde Petrovic, Joao Felix, Noni Madueke and several others, Chelsea are in a position to continue spending and that is exactly what they plan to do.
Negotiations for Xavi Simons have been ongoing for the last few weeks and while there has been a delay, football.london understands that confidence remains a deal will be sealed. The Blues have also opened talks to sign Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho.
Signing the pair is expected to cost in the region of £100million and therefore further departures being sealed appears crucial. With that in mind, Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku are both expected to be moved on and the latest big transfer going through will likely only help Chelsea’s hopes of raising major funds.
That is because United are about to spend £73.8million (€85m) on Sesko and that can be used as a yardstick in any potential negotiations for Jackson and Nkunku.
Though the two Chelsea stars are a few years older than Sesko, both have Premier League experience and are arguably in or entering their prime years.
Newcastle United, Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked to the Senegal international with a move to the former the most likely option. Having lost out on Sesko to United, despite seeing a £73.8million (€85m) bid accepted, the Magpies are in desperate need of signing a striker with Alexander Isak wanting to join Liverpool.

Chelsea value Jackson at £80million but it seems more likely a deal will go through at 75 per cent of that fee. Nkunku meanwhile, has admirers at Bayern and Manchester United but the Frenchman joining either now seems unlikely considering what both have spent to sign other forwards.
Nonetheless, it looks as though Chelsea will be able to get sizeable fees for both with Sesko’s big-money move to Old Trafford playing into their hands.
