Chelsea may have a potential dilemma on the horizon if they do go on to complete a deal for Victor Osimhen.
The Blues have been heavily linked with signing the Napoli striker over the last 12 months, with the rumours ramping up once again following the conclusion of last season.
Osimhen spent last season on loan at Galatasaray, where he scored 37 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions. He has since been heavily linked with another move this summer, where Chelsea have been mentioned as a potential destination.
Osimhen has also been credited as a target for Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League. Reports in the last couple of days, though, have claimed that a move to Saudi Arabia is no longer on the cards, which has fuelled speculation that Chelsea could swoop in and agree a deal.
Chelsea have been linked with several strikers already this summer, with Osimhen joining Hugo Ekitike and Viktor Gyokeres as rumoured targets. The Blues have already signed Liam Delap from Ipswich Town in a £30million deal.
If Chelsea were to agree a deal to sign Osimhen, they would likely be forced to have the striker unavailable for an extended period of time next season.
December will see the start of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where Osimhen will be hoping to help lead Nigeria to glory in the competition.
The tournament will officially get underway on December 21 and will run until January 18, meaning Osimhen could miss several Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Champions League matches if he was to sign for Chelsea.
The exact number of games that Osimhen would miss won’t become clearer until the Premier League fixture list is confirmed on June 18. After that, it will depend on what matches the Blues will get in the league phase of the Champions League.
Chelsea can end the 2024/25 Premier League season on a high, but it is never quiet at Stamford Bridge and the summer looks set to be one full of news, with Enzo Maresca looking for transfer to bolster his squad.
