Estevao may have impressed for club and country since making the move to Chelsea this summer, but that hasn’t prevented the teenage sensation from receiving the full wrath of Carlo Ancelotti
Estevao found himself on the receiving end of a public dressing down by Carlo Ancelotti during a Brazil training session last month, as a result of defying the Italian head coach’s orders.
As the 18-year-old joined his nation to prepare for a friendly against South Korea, it is said that he ignored Ancelotti’s instructions to press a full-back during an exercise. Known for his fiery demeanour, the former Real Madrid boss instantly instantly vented his frustration towards the player from the touchline.
As per Globo Esporte, Ancelotti yelled: “I only speak once. Either you do what I’m telling you, or you’re out of the team,” at Estevao’s reported act of defiance during the session, showing that the 66-year-old still runs his team with an iron fist. It appears as though his words of advice proved fruitful, with Brazil securing a 5-0 win over South Korea in the friendly, and Estevao bagging a brace on the night.
The Franca-born winger has impressed since joining Chelsea from Palmeiras in a pre-arranged deal this summer, showing flashes of brilliance against stiff competition. Thus far this season, Estevao has managed four goals and an assist from 16 appearances across all competitions.
That’s inclusive of a last-minute winner against reigning Premier League champions Liverpool at the turn of October at Stamford Bridge. It comes as Estevao recently spoke with Sky Sports about his flying start to life in the Premier League.
During an interview with the broadcaster which was released last week, the wonderkid – who has already been compared to Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr – said: “For sure it’s been a lot better than I expected, because I spent almost a-year-and-a-half wondering how it was going to be.
“And now I’m here today, I’ve adapted quickly here. I’ve been able to play and adapt well. Outside and at the club as well I am very happy.
“I thank God for all of this, and my family. And for sure, it’s been better than I expected it to be.”
He also added that Chelsea legend, Thiago Silva had a part to play in his move from his homeland to west London, explaining how the centre-half spoke with him last year ahead of his transfer. He explained: “After the last Brazilian Serie A game in 2024, we had a brief conversation.
“He came and spoke to me and asked if I would like to sign for the club, that the club had an incredible structure. And for sure we are seeing that now, that the club has everything I need and an incredible set-up.
“Incredible people that work here. So yeah, I spoke to him after the game. I was really happy because Thiago Silva is an idol of this club. It was an incredible opportunity.
“So for the rest of that year I was anticipating it. I watched a lot of Chelsea games so I could see who I would be working with here, and thanks to God, it’s all going well here. I’m very happy with life right now, and it’s been incredible.”
Estevao will enjoy one final friendly with Brazil as the nation face Tunisia on Tuesday evening, before returning to the capital to reunite with his Chelsea team-mates. Enzo Maresca’s side return to Premier League action on Saturday, November 22 when they travel to Turf Moor to take on Scott Parker’s Burnley.
They then face Barcelona in the Champions League and Arsenal in the Premier League before November is out and a testing period of league and European football ensues in the build-up to the new year.
