Chelsea’s Mike Maignan truth explained, Jamie Gittens deal and six transfers still to be secured

As the summer’s first transfer window reached its conclusion on Tuesday evening, there was a feeling of disappointment for some Chelsea supporters.

The Blues have already been extremely busy – with the club announcing three signings over the past seven days. First of all, Dario Essugo’s move from Sporting CP was confirmed, with Liam Delap’s switch from Ipswich Town announced two days later. Mamadou Sarr’s £14million transfer from Strasbourg was completed earlier in the week.

However, at one point, there looked as if there may have been two more incomings on top of the aforementioned three before the FIFA Club World Cup begins at the weekend. Chelsea held intense talks with AC Milan over a deal to sign goalkeeper Mike Maignan but the Blues fell short with their efforts after failing to agree on a price with the Rossoneri.

Chelsea proposed a fee of less than £13million, with Milan wanting £21million for the France goalkeeper. football.london understands the west Londoners have not ruled out making another move for Maignan when the window reopens on June 16, with the goalkeeper having just over 12 months left to run on his deal at the San Siro.

One man Chelsea will certainly return for is Jamie Gittens. The Blues were looking to complete a deal with Borussia Dortmund in time for the 20-year-old winger to play in the Club World Cup, however if that was not to be, then Chelsea would not rush negotiations for the sake of it. football.london understands Gittens has informed Dortmund of his desire to join Chelsea after the German club rejected the Blues’ £42million offer on Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, there are expected to be a host of exits from Stamford Bridge once the window opens again. Omari Kellyman is expected to head out on loan, football.london understands, with a move within England the likeliest option for the 19-year-old. After an extremely difficult season with injuries, Kellyman, who signed for the Blues last summer, is looking for first team football elsewhere temporarily but it is understood he is still targeting a spot at Stamford Bridge in the future.

Mathis Amougou and Kendry Paez are both set to join Strasbourg on loan next season. Chelsea have seen the progress the likes of Djordje Petrovic and Andrey Santos made while on loan at the BlueCo-owned French club and are hopeful Amougou and Paez will follow in their footsteps. There is also talk of Aaron Anselmino moving to the French outfit for the season.

Speculation over Trevoh Chalobah’s future never seems to be too far away. The 25-year-old defender, who made his England debut in the Three Lions’ 3-1 defeat to Senegal on Tuesday night, is free to leave this summer should Chelsea receive what they deem to be an acceptable offer for the Cobham graduate, while sources close to Benoit Badiashile refuse to rule out a move away for the 24-year-old defender.
