Chris Wilder has revealed which team he hopes will lift the Premier League title after Sheffield United fell to a 3-1 defeat at Liverpool. The Blades were on course for a shock point at Anfield after Conor Bradley awarded the visitors the equaliser to cancel out Darwin Nunez’s opener.

Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo then turned the Reds’ fortunes around. The result saw the Reds return to the top of the table and move two points clear of Arsenal in second and three ahead of Manchester City.

As for Sheffield, they stay rock bottom and are destined for the Championship. While Wilder was disappointed with the result, he hopes the Reds go on to win the Premier League in Jurgen Klopp’s final season in charge.

As he walked through the mixed zone, he declared to a member of Liverpool staff: “I hope you win it – I mean that.”

During his press-conference, he said: “Playing at Anfield in front of 60,000 going into the last 10 games of the season, it doesn’t come more difficult for anyone, especially Sheffield United and the gulf between the two clubs.

“I just think the physical aspect of the game in the Premier League now has taken an incredible step forward. [Andy] Robertson coming on the pitch, the power and the pace of the Premier League, that’s been our Achilles heel all season.

“And yet again Liverpool are finding goals late on and we’re struggling to hang on in there; recovery runs late on, you’ve seen our players cramping up and struggling to get back on.

“From my point of view, it’s a difficult one to take. You want the players to give everything that they’ve got and you’ve certainly seen that from the team tonight.

“They’ve given everything they’ve got over the last three games but physically the gap where you’d need to be, I’d like to be and want us to be and where we are at the moment, it hurts. It’s hurt all season and yet again it’s cost us tonight.”

Klopp meanwhile, added: “We needed Macca’s wonder goal to turn it around. The third goal was like it should have been before. This kind of moment, Robbo (Andy Robertson) at full speed, wonderful cross, sensational header.”

Arsenal, on the other hand, will look to maintain their title bid alive when they take on Brighton & Hove Albion at the AMEX on Saturday (5:30pm kick-off).
