Cleaning expert Chantel Mila Ibbotson has shared her secret solution to brightening your whites with just three ingredients, which is ‘perfect for socks, t-shirts, and linens’

Say good riddance to dingey whites thanks to this tried and tested method that only requires three ingredients.

Whether it’s your favourite pair of socks or your little one’s bedding, white garments can quickly go from looking pristine to grey and dull. If you’re not wanting to bleach your clothes to brighten – which could damage them and irritate your skin – there is a ‘powerful’ alternative’.

The tip comes from Chantel Mila Ibbotson, a cleaning expert and author of The Dream Clean. She has amassed a whopping 2.7 million Instagram followers with her handy tips for ‘styling, organising, and cleaning’ the home.

In a viral video, the mum-of two shared how she transforms her dull-looking whites using a homemade solution. “Say goodbye to dingy white clothes,” she said. “Here’s another top request! This simple method keeps your whites looking whiter and brighter. It’s perfect for socks, t-shirts and linens.”

Chantel starts by covering a t-shirt in warm water in a bowl before adding around 60g of hydrogen peroxide to ‘brighten’ and ‘disinfect’ the garments, along with 250g of baking soda to ‘deodorise’ and ‘brighten’ them. You can also also a teaspoon of washing-up liquid if your clothes or bed linen have any oil-based stains.

Then, simply soak the clothes for an hour before popping them in the washing machine on your usual cycle. Et voila – your whites should be dazzling once again.
