Gareth Southgate has confirmed that England and Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane will not play in Saturday’s international friendly against Brazil at Wembley – and it appears he may even be a question mark for Arsenal’s Champions League quarter-final first-leg against Bayern Munich.

Kane has been ruled out of the first of two friendlies for the Three Lions in the last international break of the season and is also a doubt for Tuesday’s meeting with Belgium as well. “Tomorrow no Harry Kane, no Jordan Henderson, no Cole Palmer,” Southgate said on Friday ahead of the game.

“I would say Cole and Hendo have a better chance of Belgium than Harry. He’d be extremely doubtful for that.” The Gunners have already seen their own star forward, Bukayo Saka, withdraw from the national team squad through fitness worries.

Kane trained indoors during the first session at St George’s Park away from his teammates. Saka joined him, as did Henderson and Palmer as the quartet all underwent individual programmes to assess their fitness.

The England captain sustained an injury last week during Bayern’s 5-2 demolition of Darmstadt. Looking to get his second of the game, Kane collided with the post when trying to get a shot away at the back post.

Arsenal play Bayern Munich at the Emirates Stadium on April 9 before travelling to Germany one week later. Bayern will be left to sweat over the fitness of Kane should he also miss England’s game against Belgium on Tuesday, March 26.

Mikel Arteta’s men will go to the Etihad Stadium on March 31, in their first game back from the international break. It is the start of a testing run-in as Arsenal look to push themselves towards having a successful end to the campaign.
