Erling Haaland makes Man City 115 charges statement as Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham watch on

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has had his say on the club’s case over alleged financial breaches.

In February 2023, City were charged by the Premier League with 115 breaches of historic financial fair play rules. The allegations dated back to between 2009 and 2018 – mainly relating to the manner in which players and staff were paid by the Blues.

City strongly deny any wrongdoing and believe they have irrefutable evidence which will clear their name. Due to the complex nature of the case, the hearing only began in September 2024 and culminated at the end of last year as Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and all other top-flight clubs watch on with interest.

If City are found guilty of the most serious charges, the club could face several possible punishments, including points deductions, fines, and even the stripping of titles. But Haaland is confident that his club will win their case.

“I spoke with the bosses, and in the end, I believe them,” he told TIME.

“It’s such a tricky situation for me to even sit there and speak about, because I wasn’t really involved in it.

“So I think the club knows what they’re doing. They will sort it out.”

Speaking about the case back in March after signing a new contract and whether it influenced his decision, he commented: “I don’t do that, obviously, when I sign a nine-and-a-half-year contract.

“I’ve said 300 times why I signed the contract. I talked to the club, got a good feeling and agreed to it in the end. That’s why.”

It comes after Premier League chief executive Richard Masters was quizzed over the case while attending Manchester United’s pre-season friendly against. Bournemouth in Chicago overnight on Thursday.

“You can ask but unfortunately, as you know our rules are very clear,” he said.

“It’s a confidential process so I really can’t give any information out on timing or anything like that.

“There is nothing more I can add, so I am sorry about that.”
