Chelsea’s season is not yet over. They have the small matter of the UEFA Conference League final this evening as they take on Real Betis in Wroclaw, Poland.
The Blues can make it a very successful season by lifting the trophy, having already finished fourth in the Premier League table, thus qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
With the Conference League having only been set up in 2021, Chelsea can create history by winning the trophy – becoming the first club to win all three European competitions, having already lifted the Champions League and Europa League trophies in the past.
Enzo Maresca will be looking to kick on next season though, and to do so they will need summer transfer additions, as they battle on two fronts. Some players will need to move on too, however.
Here football.london takes a look at the four deals Chelsea can complete this week with the first of two summer transfer windows to open at the end of the week.
Jadon Sancho
Do Chelsea want to make Sancho’s move to Stamford Bridge a permanent one?
The 25-year-old has been on loan with the Blues this season, having fallen out of favour with then Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.
Chelsea do have an obligation to buy the winger at the end of his loan deal, but there is talk they can get out of that by paying £5million to United.
Either way, it would seem to be a simple deal to do, one way or the other, as the transfer window opens.
Christopher Nkunku
It has not been the two seasons in the Premier League that Nkunku would have hoped for after joining the club in 2023.
Injured for much of the 2023/24 campaign, Nkunku has struggled to tie down a regular starting spot under Maresca this season, starting just nine Premier League matches.
There is plenty of interest, from elsewhere in the Premier League and abroad, in signing him this summer and he could be one to depart early in the window to free up funds for new signings.
Benjamin Sesko
Chelsea need a new forward this summer to ease the burden on Nicolas Jackson’s shoulders, given Nkunku’s struggles.
Making a big-money move would be a real statement of intent, particularly given their qualification for the Champions League next season and signing Sesko would not only be a major move, but it would hit London rivals Arsenal hard too.
The Gunners have been tracking the frontman and looked to sign him last summer before he signed a new contract to stay with RB Leipzig for one more season.
Chelsea will want to get a deal over the line before jetting off to the Club World Cup and Sesko could be the perfect early transfer.
Jonathan David
If they do not want to spend big on a striker, however, to save their expenditure for other areas of the pitch, they could easily make a move to sign Jonathan David.
The Canadian striker is hot property given he is out of contract at Lille this summer and Chelsea could have been talking to him about a move to west London since January.
David scored 16 goals in Ligue Un this season, laying on five assists as well and is available on a free, so there should not be too many hitches when it comes to completing a deal early on in the transfer window.
Chelsea can end the 2024/25 Premier League season on a high, but it is never quiet at Stamford Bridge and the summer looks set to be one full of news, with Enzo Maresca looking for transfer to bolster his squad.
