Chelsea enjoyed a brilliant transfer window, smashing the Premier League record for player sales in a single summer. While the Blues managed to rake in nearly £290m, they also welcomed lots of new faces to Stamford Bridge.
Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart invested £285m in Enzo Maresca’s squad, bringing in a healthy balance of exciting forwards and midfield maestros. The sporting directors bolstered Chelsea’s attacking options, but they only signed one defender: Jorrel Hato.
With Levi Colwill currently nursing an anterior cruciate ligament injury, the west Londoners could fall short in the coming months. Nevertheless, Chelsea walked away from the transfer window with one of the healthiest net spends (£3m) in the English top-flight.
Arsenal forked out a table-topping £246m and Liverpool splashed £228m, while Manchester United (£148m) soared past Tottenham Hotspur (£145m) in the final hours by signing Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.
