Greggs stores reportedly closed across the UK due to ‘technical issues’

By Staff

Greggs customers have been reporting they are unable to get their morning coffee and breakfast after stores across the country remained closed. Many turned to social media to say they had arrived at the bakery only to find them closed.

According to reports on social media some people had been told it was as a result of a technical issue. Those closed included all those across Newcastle where one would-be customer said: “I can’t believe it – I have one every morning but not today.”

“They so seem to be operating delivery though so I’m going to try that.” Others took to social media with Rosie writing on X: “Greggs all closed due to technology issues”.

Lu added: “All my local @GreggsOfficial stores are close because of technical issues, missing my morning coffee.”

Greggs told Mailonline: “We are currently experiencing issues accepting payments in our shops. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible.”

The store is the latest to be hit with technical problems. Sainsbury’s, Tesco and McDonalds have all had glitches in the past week. On Friday customers reported being unable to get their McDonald’s across stores in the UK, USA and Australia.

On Saturday both Sainsbury’s and Tesco also had IT issues leaving some customers unable to pay for their shopping and being forced to abandon it in store.

The multiple issues have also sparked comments on social media. Dunstable Toblerone questioned on X: “What is happening? #McDonalds, #Sainsburys, #Tesco and now #Greggs have experienced “IT Issues” in the last week or so. Is there some kind of common service provider that these companies use? Seems very odd.”
