Hairdresser Brittany has urged clients to stop wearing a particular garment of clothing when they come in for an appointment, as it makes her job a lot harder – so here’s what to avoid next time you need a cut…
Turns out, what you wear does matter – even when you’re just nipping for a blow dry.
Most of us opt for comfort over style when we’re heading to the salon, aware that we’re going to be sitting down for a good few hours with foil wrapped around our head. But many Brits would never think to make sure their outfit is appropriate for the hairdressers.
Now, professional stylist Brittany has gone viral after sharing one particular wardrobe choice that really riles her. In fact, she’s urged her clients to avoid the garment altogether, arguing it makes her job much harder.
Taking to TikTok, with a video that’s clocked up more than 60,000 views, Brittany revealed: “When you come to your appointment wearing a turtleneck. Please don’t wear a turtleneck.”
Brittany, who goes by the username @by.brittany, continued: “It’s probably gonna get colour on it, and then it’s gonna be my fault, even though you shouldn’t have worn a turtleneck to your appointment.”
Other “icks” included turning up late to an appointment with a coffee in hand without bringing one for your hardworking hairdresser, and using too much purple shampoo while expecting the stylist to make their hair “blonder”. Brittany also hates it when clients badmouth other hairdressers, sighing: “When someone complains about their old hairstylist and kind of wants you to complain about them as well. Don’t do that. Ick.”

A number of hairdressers in the comment section could relate all too well to Brittany’s list of salon gripes, with one fed-up individual thanking her for “spreading the good word”. A second person wrote: “This is good stuff. I would agree with you on all! White turtle necks all day for me with dark colour!”
A third agreed, commenting: “And don’t wear a bulky hoodie or favorite light-colored [sic] shirt. Because you never know.” While a fourth added: “Or hoodies when they don’t have a t-shirt on underneath. The amount of times that happens is super annoying.”
