Harry Kane did not take part in England group training on Friday in what is a huge blow to the Three Lions, as well as potentially Bayern Munich ahead of next month’s Champions League clash with Arsenal.

The striker was left in discomfort during the late stages of Bayern’s 5-2 Bundesliga win over Darmstadt this past weekend after colliding with the post. Kane still joined up with the England squad despite the injury concerns, but has failed to train with the group at St. George’s Park.

Ahead of England’s match against Brazil on Saturday, both Kane and Jordan Henderson missed group training on Friday. The pair again worked inside on individualised training programmes, with Gareth Southgate working with a 23-man squad ahead of travelling down to London following Bukayo Saka’s withdrawal from the squad.

The Arsenal forward reported to St George’s Park with an injury and returned to his club on Thursday having been unable to participate in training. The issue is thought to be a minor muscle injury and given that both upcoming England games are friendlies the decision was taken for him to return to north London.

Arsenal face Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals next month, with Kane facing a race against time to be fit for the clash. The former Tottenham star has been in sensational form this season, scoring 37 goals in 35 games in all competitions for the German giants.

In the immediate aftermath of Bayern’s win, Thomas Tuchel offered an update on Kane. “He collided with the post and twisted his ankle a bit,” Tuchel said. “He had his ankle iced. There’s still no diagnosis, we have to wait. I hope it’s nothing bad.”

Elsewhere, veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has also picked up an injury while on international duty with Germany. A statement from the Germany national team on social media read: “Manuel Neuer left early due to a torn muscle fiber in his left adductor and is out of the two upcoming international matches. He sustained the injury in training that morning. Get well soon, Manu!”

With Kane and Neuer now both doubts, the Bavarians could also be without another player after releasing a statement on Sacha Boey. “FC Bayern will be without full-back Sacha Boey for the next few weeks,” a club statement read. “The new arrival this winter suffered a torn muscle in his left hamstring during training on Wednesday. The diagnosis was confirmed by the FC Bayern medical unit.”
