England women’s national team kickstart their defence of the European Championships title on Saturday night with a group stage opener against France.
Sarina Wiegman’s team created memories to inspire a generation when they hosted the Women’s Euros in 2022, blitzing their way to the Wembley Stadium final where they won their first-ever major honour by defeating Germany.
That has been followed by success in the Women’s Finalissima in 2023 vs Brazil, but also defeat to Spain in the 2023 Women’s FIFA World Cup final to Spain. Now the next silverware is in the Lionesses’ sights.
Again it is time for the Women’s Euros, hosted by Switzerland this time, and the tournament gets underway for England with a match against neighbours France.
“The team looks really good, I think we are ready, we had our last session this morning and everyone came through well,” Wiegman told reporters beforehand.
“I think we had some good weeks where we trained, we could do some tactics and I think we are very well prepared.
“You see the bonding. We have worked really, really hard and I definitely think we are ready to go tomorrow.”
The Lionesses come into the tournament placed fifth on FIFA’s world rankings, bettered only by Spain and Germany from Europe.
And with that, football.london provides all of the necessary details to be able to watch the action unfold.
