A man has sparked a debate after revealing he wants to break up with his pregnant girlfriend because he doesn’t want to be a dad just yet — leaving her to raise their child alone as a single teen mum

A man has been slammed for admitting he wants to break up with his pregnant girlfriend because he’s “not ready to be a dad”.

The 20-year-old man shared how he knowingly didn’t wear protection when sleeping with his girlfriend, 18, resulting in an unwanted pregnancy. Torn up, the teenager decided to keep the baby — and might end up raising the baby as a single teen mum as her boyfriend wants nothing to do with the pregnancy or the child.

Taking to Reddit, he said: “I’ve been dating my girlfriend for a year now. We were both stupid and decided to do it without protection, the pull-out method didn’t work.

“I found out a few weeks ago that she’s pregnant, she wants to keep it but I don’t want her to. I know it’s the woman’s choice but I’m not financially stable. I’m still in college and know nothing about raising a kid, I can’t leave her either because that would be selfish.

Worried about his future, he added: “It’s almost 3am and I can’t sleep because it’s eating me up alive. I don’t wanna be a deadbeat dad. But at the same time, I can’t raise the kid, everything is f***ing expensive here and a kid won’t make it any easier for me or her.”

Commenting on his post, one user said: “Buddy, you don’t have a choice in helping to raise that kid one way or the other. Certain language in this post seems to imply you believe you can just leave her and be done with it, even though you say you wouldn’t. The reality is that you’ll still have to pay child support even if you leave.

“Regardless, the damage is done. If she decides to keep it, you need to start preparing for your new future.” Another user added: “I know this isn’t what you planned, but this is what you got. Now you need to make the best of it. You’re going to be a dad. No one’s ever really “ready” to be a parent. You learn. Is your life going to change? Hell yeah. But some of those changes will be awesome. And some will suck. And you know what?

“Even if you didn’t have a kid on the way some things in your life would be awesome and some would suck. It’s just…life. Be there for your girlfriend. Be there for your kid. No one expects you to be perfect. But you’re 20, not 15. You’ll be okay. You’ll adjust. People who have nothing find a way to raise kids. You’ll find a way.”

A third user said: “I know you probably don’t want to hear it but you guys f***ed up, now it’s time to take responsibility. It is unbelievably scary and I get it but you guys will get through it. Prepare for it as much as you possibly can in the next 9 months. 5 years from now you’ll look back and wonder why you stressed so much.”
