Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho sent a heart-warming message to Arsenal star Bukayo Saka after he helped secure England’s progression to the semi-finals of Euro 2024.
It was a typically nervy affair for the Three Lions in Dusseldorf as they struggled to break down a resolute Swiss team. Their lack of cutting-edge looked like it would be their undoing when Breel Embolo prodded his team in front with 15 minutes remaining.
Fortunately, England could rely on Saka to find an extra gear and he equalised five minutes later with a wonderful strike that went in off the post from the edge of the area. Eventually, the game would be settled by penalties, with Saka being one of five penalty-takers who all converted.
Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the winning spot-kick as England progressed, but it was Saka who gained the ultimate redemption. Three years ago at Wembley Stadium, the Arsenal man, along with United’s Sancho and Marcus Rashford, received horrific racist abuse after they missed penalties in England’s shootout defeat to Italy.
Since then, Saka has managed to grow and has become instrumental not only for his national team but for the Gunners too. After he was awarded the Man of the Match award, Saka received a wonderful message from Sancho on Instagram.
Posting to his story, Sancho wrote: “I’m so proud of this guy! Bukayo Saka you did it for me and Marcus brother!” Clearly touched by the message from the United man, Saka responded: “My boys!”
