The summer transfer window is open, and Chelsea could be set to have a busy few months ahead based on some of the latest reports.
The Blues are now being linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens. A report in The Athletic has claimed that Chelsea are looking to sign the England Under-21 international – amid suggestions that a bid has been made to the Bundesliga club.
Gittens typically plays on the left wing for Dortmund, while it’s a safe assumption that would continue to be the case if he was to complete a move to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have been heavily linked with signing a new winger this summer, and Gittens fits the bill of a player that the Blues could be interested in.
If Chelsea were to agree a deal to sign Gittens, the 20-year-old will have ambitions of being a regular starter next season. If that was to happen, it could help one of the Blues’ latest signings going forward.
Chelsea have already confirmed the signing of Liam Delap – after they agreed to pay the £30million release clause in his contract at Ipswich Town.
Delap will wear the No.9 shirt and will hope to be a regular starter under head coach Enzo Maresca next season. If that goes on to be the case, next term could possibly see Gittens and Delap start alongside each other in the final third for the Blues.
Gittens scored 12 assists for Dortmund last season across the Bundesliga and the Champions League, and he also provided five assists. Delap also found the back of the net 12 times last term for Ipswich, so both players have the proven quality of scoring goals that Chelsea will want to happen once again next season.
Plus, given Delap, 22, and Gittens, 20, are still in the early stages of their respective careers, Chelsea appear to be building their squad to set themselves up for years to come.
Only time will tell if Chelsea will go on to sign Gittens, of course. But if the Blues do ultimately agree a deal with Dortmund for their forward, it could go on to help a fellow summer signing ahead of an important season on the horizon.
Chelsea can end the 2024/25 Premier League season on a high, but it is never quiet at Stamford Bridge and the summer looks set to be one full of news, with Enzo Maresca looking for transfer to bolster his squad.
