Chelsea could still have a busy summer transfer window even though the first deadline has passed.
The Blues had until 7pm on Tuesday to sign any players they wanted to have registered in time to feature at the FIFA Club World Cup, which gets underway in the United States later this month.
Now, Chelsea will have to wait until the summer window reopens again on June 16 before being able to resume their transfer business. A host of players have been linked with moving to Stamford Bridge over the last few weeks, and some of those could still go on to sign for the club in the weeks or months ahead.
Here, football.london takes a look at some of the deals Chelsea could look to complete when the transfer window reopens.
Sign Jamie Gittens
Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens has emerged as a transfer target for Chelsea this summer. However, the Blues were unable to agree a deal before the 7pm deadline on Tuesday.
The interest is still likely to be there even though the window has closed, with Chelsea holding talks with Dortmund over the last few days.
Chelsea may hope to return to the negotiation table when the transfer window reopens to try and bring Gittens to Stamford Bridge.
Sign Hugo Ekitike
Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike has been heavily linked with joining Chelsea over the last few weeks.
The Blues have already signed Liam Delap to strengthen their striker options, but seemingly also have Ekitike on their shortlist of targets to move to Stamford Bridge. However, reports on Tuesday claimed that Chelsea are still interested in signing the striker even though a deal would not happen before the deadline, as proved to be the case.
It remains to be seen if the Blues will look to sign Ekitike when the transfer window reopens. If the interest remains, bringing the France Under-21 international to London will be near the top of the club’s to-do list for when the transfer window reopens.
Revisit Mike Maignan deal
Chelsea did express an interest in signing AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan earlier this month.
However, the deal fell through before Tuesday’s deadline after an agreement could not be reached between the two clubs.
Whether Chelsea still have an interest in signing Maignan remains to be seen. The Blues had offered £13millon for the goalkeeper, although Milan are thought to have placed a valuation in excess of £20million for the shot-stopper whose contract expires at the end of next season.
Sign Jorrel Hato
Chelsea have also been heavily linked with signing Ajax defender Jorrel Hato over the last few weeks.
Hato has been mentioned as a potential target for Liverpool in the past, but it seems that the Blues may be the favourites to sign the defender.
A deal to bring Hato to Stamford Bridge was not agreed before Tuesday’s deadline, but it’s possible that Chelsea may want to sign the versatile defender when the transfer window reopens. Only time will tell if that turns out to be true.
Chelsea can end the 2024/25 Premier League season on a high, but it is never quiet at Stamford Bridge and the summer looks set to be one full of news, with Enzo Maresca looking for transfer to bolster his squad.
