Chelsea legend John Terry has responded to Tottenham’s first trophy in 17 years after Ange Postecoglou’s men beat Manchester United in the Europa League final.
Spurs beat their Premier League rivals 1-0 in Bilbao thanks to Brennan Johnson’s scrappy first-half goal. It means the club will play in the Champions League as a result of ending their 41-year wait for a European triumph.
The full-time scenes saw tears and jubilation with James Maddison, who missed the final due to injury, joining in with the celebrations. After watching the contest from the sidelines in a black blazer, the former Leicester City ace changed into a full kit for the trophy lift and camaraderie in the San Mames Stadium.
On Instagram, Maddison posted an image on his story of him in his smart-wear with the caption: “From suit,” followed by a picture of him and Johnson with the Europa League trophy in his kit. He added: “To kit. Full @johnterry.26 mode. Anything to say tonight John? *laughing face emoji* *white love heart*.”
Terry didn’t take long to reply to Maddison, who he worked with during the back end of the 2022/23 season at Leicester. Sharing the playmaker’s story on his own, the Chelsea legend put: “I remember my first trophy. Ah bless them *laughing face emoji*.”
“Get the tequila out *laughing face emoji*. Great season from you boys, you should all be proud! *eyes emoji* 16 to go… *laughing face emoji* *17 trophy emojis*.
“After that performance I think you have a chance. You just have to live for 900 years *laughing face emoji*.”
Terry followed that up with another Instagram story of him showing fans his trophy room, which includes a Champions League, a number of Premier League titles and domestic cups. “Good morning Everyone Have a lovely day *blue love heart* *trophy emoji* *eyes emoji*.”
