Jurrien Timber has posted an update on social media as he continues his recovery from injury.

Arsenal make the trip to rock-bottom Southampton on Sunday afternoon as they look to conclude their season following a Champions League exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain earlier on this month. The Gunners are already dealing with a long list of injuries – with Gabriel Jesus, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Gabriel Magalhaes currently out of action with various problems.

Now, both William Saliba and Timber have joined that list, after last weekend’s 1-0 win over Newcastle United. Timber was not involved in the matchday squad against Newcastle, and it has now been confirmed that he has undergone ankle surgery.

“It’s a wrap, time to recharge and look ahead,” he said on Instagram alongside a picture of him on crutches.

Speaking about Arsenal’s latest injury absentees to beIN SPORTS, Mikel Arteta confirmed: “William is going to be out for a few weeks, unfortunately. He pulled his hamstring against Newcastle, so he’s now going to be out for a few weeks.

“Jurrien had surgery yesterday on his ankle, so he’ll be out for a few weeks as well.”

Timber got his chance to make an impression this season, having spent almost all of last year on the sidelines after a serious knee injury. The blow came during a game against Nottingham Forest early last season.

“With Jurrien, you understand that he was coming back from an ACL one year out, and to have this season after an ACL, it’s incredible,” Arteta added. “We didn’t sign a player, we signed a leader, a very, very special character.”

While no official return dates have been mapped out, for either player, there is optimism that their injuries will not impact their pre-season preparations.
