Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber believes it will be a “busy” summer for his club, with the north London side set to splash the cash. Following a third consecutive season finishing runners-up in the Premier League, Mikel Arteta’s team are ready to strengthen with substantial financial backing.

It appears Martin Zubimendi is on course to be the first new arrival at the Emirates Stadium with only a medical left to complete before a deal is finalised. The 26-year-old Spaniard is poised to enhance Arteta’s midfield options, despite anticipation soaring regarding potential attacking reinforcements.

Options up front for the Gunners include Sporting CP’s prolific striker Viktor Gyokeres, who netted an exceptional 54 goals last campaign, and RB Leipzig’s rising star Benjamin Sesko, who, at 22, carries the promise of a long-term investment and has been on Arsenal’s radar for some time.

Potential alternatives come in the form of Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Goncalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain, with fantasy acquisition Alexander Isak pretty much ruled out due to cost constraints. With a clear commitment to bolster the squad, Timber anticipates a busy window, not only in the attack but across the pitch.

“It will definitely be a busy one for Arsenal,” the Dutch defender told podcast Matchday. “I think we will get a lot of players, because we had so many injuries last season. At one point we almost had no players left. So for the depth of the players they definitely want to get players.”

Timber’s own position at right-back could be under threat, following his £34million move from Ajax in 2023, as Arsenal are reportedly eyeing several full-backs while also strengthening their midfield and attack. Josh Kroenke, co-chairman of the Gunners, recently hinted at the club’s summer strategy after another trophyless season.

In a letter to supporters in May, Kroenke stated: “We plan to invest to get behind winning and doing better next season. We’re delighted we have our sporting director, Andrea [Berta], who will play an important role in this.

“He is part of a unified and strong team, supported by the board, who are crystal clear on exactly what we need to do and the way in which we want to do it. The right way. The Arsenal way. Ultimately, we all want the same thing. We’re as hungry for success as you are and that goes for everyone who works for the club.”
