It’s been a difficult few months for George, Charlotte and Louis following Princess Kate’s cancer diagnosis – but they have something very exciting to look forward to this week

Excitement will be growing in Prince William and Kate’s household this week.

There have been plenty of standout moments for their children recently, including meeting Taylor Swift, attending Trooping the Colour and a potential upcoming visit to Wimbledon. But Saturday is sure to be a major highlight for one simple reason. July 6 marks an important date in the calendar – the last day of term at Lambrook school. According to the website, pupils from Nursery to Year 4, attend school from Monday to Friday, with those in Years 5 to 8, taking part in a full Saturday school.

George, Charlotte and Louis all attend the Berkshire prep school -Year 6, Year 4 and Year 1 respectively – and are no doubt eagerly counting down until the start of their long summer holidays.

What’s more, the new school year doesn’t start until Wednesday 4th September, meaning the Wales children can look forward to more than eight weeks away from their studies. Charlotte, nine, will be especially pleased. Proud dad William recently revealed that his only daughter had been sitting exams at school – and she hadn’t been enjoying it.

During a walkabout at a D-Day event in Portsmouth last month, William spoke to a fan who enquired after his little girl. He bent down and explained: “Charlotte’s at school, Charlotte’s got exams.” He added: “Yes, she’s got tests – she wasn’t looking forward to it this morning… Hopefully it’s all gone well!”

Lambrook is set in 52 acres of Berkshire countryside, and facilities include a golf course, swimming pool, theatre, sports centre, as well as various art studios. Managing Editor of The Good Schools Guide, Melanie Sanderson, told HELLO!: “We know the royals love being outdoors. They love the countryside and it’s a real muddy-knees type of school. They’ve got acres and acres of pitches and fields to explore and they’re allowed free rein in their break times.”

It’s been a difficult time for George Charlotte and Louis following their mother’s cancer diagnosis. But they will be looking forward to quality family time together over the coming weeks. It’s not known whether William and Kate will enjoy a getaway over the summer; in previous years, the couple have taken their children to the Isles of Scilly, a repeat holiday spot for the Waleses.

But they may well travel to Scotland to spend time with King Charles at Balmoral. The late Queen would spend every summer there and during her stay, multiple members of the royal family came to join her, from William and Kate, to Charles and Camilla, and Princess Eugenie and Beatrice. It’s a tradition Charles is likely to maintain.

Balmoral was widely thought to be the monarch’s favourite residence. “I think Granny is the most happy there. I think she really, really loves the Highlands,” described her granddaughter Princess Eugenie in the documentary Our Queen At Ninety.
