Kate Middleton confirms she has cancer and has started chemotherapy

The public was left reeling from shock when the Princess of Wales announced her cancer diagnosis, and messages of support flooded in from fans and public figures across the world.

Appearing solo in her personal video message to the public, Kate revealed that she had been diagnosed with the disease following her planned abdominal surgery in January. While doctors didn’t think she had cancer initially, post-op test results showed otherwise.

While her poignant message mostly focused on updating the public about her health, Kate also took a moment to send a moving message to her husband Prince William.

Kate, who has not disclosed the type of cancer she had, took the opportunity to thank the public for their continued support and well-wishes as she recovered from the successful operation at home in Windsor. However, she asked for privacy with her family as she continues her course of preventative chemotherapy treatment.

The princess also expressed her gratitude for the medical professionals looking after her, along with her husband Prince William, and children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. “I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you, personally, for all the wonderful messages of support and for your understanding whilst I have been recovering from surgery,” Kate began.

Addressing William directly with a sweet message, she said: “Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too. As is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both.”

Kate explained that the diagnosis came as a “huge shock” and that she and William have been doing what they can to manage the situation “for the sake of our young family”. “As you can imagine, this has taken time,” she continued.

“It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok”

She ended her televised statement with a poignant message of solidarity for those also with cancer. “At this time, I am also thinking of all those whose lives have been affected by cancer. For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone.”

The future Queen is said to be in good spirits as she has been having preventative chemotherapy and has been looking forward to getting back to royal duties once better. In the brave message, she revealed how she is consoling her loved ones and focusing on the positives.
