Arsenal have been given a potential boost to their hopes of signing Leroy Sane this summer, with the player and Bayern Munich still far apart in contract negotiations according to reports.
The Gunners have been credited with an interest in the former Manchester City winger for some time. It has even previously been claimed that Sane has always wanted to play for a club in London.
The German international is out of contract with Bayern at the end of the season but has been in talks with the club over a potential new deal. However, the latest reports suggest that an agreement is not close.
According to journalist Santi Aouna, there is a ‘large gap’ between both Sane and Bayern in terms of an agreement. It is added that Bayern want an answer from the player before the end of next week.
The reports back up claims last week from German outlet BILD, who reported that Bayern told Sane that he had ten days to sign a new contract at the Allianz Arena or he will leave the club.
In the latest report, Aouna names Arsenal as one of the clubs who have been offered Sane in the summer. They are, however, not the only ones with Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester United and Newcastle also named as potential destinations.
Sane has been with Bayern since joining from Man City in 2020. This season he has scored 11 times and provided six assists in 29 Bundesliga appearances for the club as he helped them to the Bundesliga title.
The 29-year-old has either scored or provided an assist in the last three Bundesliga games. He scored in both the 3-0 win over FC Mainz and the 3-3 draw with Red Bull Leipzig, before providing an assist for Michael Olise in the 2-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach.
“We’ll see, we’ll speak to each other,” Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl said recently. “Our wish is to extend Leroy’s contract, we’ve communicated that to him.
“But we have our limits. “If the limits are exceeded, then it will be very difficult.
“Let’s see what happens. “Until the deal is finalized, nothing can be said. We have a clear idea and thought we were on the right track.”
Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany was asked about Sane’s future too and he said of his former Man City team-mate: “The priority for me is always the sporting side. “We had a conversation about what I’m planning to do next season.
“I’m staying out of everything else. “I understand that a player has concerns.
“It’s an important phase in his life. “For me, it’s important that the boys perform well, and Leroy has done that.”
