Bayern Munich have told Leroy Sane he must make a decision on his future before the Club World Cup amid links with a move to Tottenham.
The 29-year-old’s contract with the German giants expires this summer and he is yet to pen a new deal. After scoring 13 goals and assisting six more in 45 appearances during the 2024/25 season, the former Manchester City man is not short of potential suitors.
Arsenal and Chelsea have been linked with the winger but Tottenham have now entered the race, with Sky Sports claiming that Spurs have been ‘offered the opportunity’ to sign Sane ahead of the new season.
Reports in Germany play a similar tune, with Bild claiming Tottenham are currently favourites to sign the winger, mainly due to their location of being based in London and the fact they qualified for the Champions League next season following their Europa League win against Manchester United last week.
According to the report, Sane is currently spending his off-season with his wife in their London home and living in the capital permanently is of interest to the German. A decision must be made soon, too, as Bild claim Bayern want to know whether he will stay or not before they leave for the Club World Cup on June 10.
While uncertainty surrounds Ange Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham, plans are being made in the background to improve the squad for the 2025/26 season, with Daniel Levy and Johan Lange already hard at work. With the squad playing Champions League football next term and in need of more quality and depth, it’s clear additional signings are needed in the summer.
“If we do some good business in the transfer market, obviously brings some experience in, I’m not talking about age, I’m talking about players who have played at this level and can help the team, then I’ve got no doubt we can make the impact we want,” Postecoglou said on Sunday.
“Not just us but any club that gets into the Champions League, I think understands that. It’s the most elite competition in Europe and it’s a great demand.
“So I think every club that gets into the Champions League sees it as an opportunity to strengthen with experience is the right word, but players who have played at that level, who are going to be comfortable at that level, not players who are stepping up to that level. That’s the difference.”
