A number of major car brands can no longer be used

All the changes coming to the Motability scheme following last week’s Budget

  • High-end car brands such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz have been axed from the Motability Scheme following an announcement in Rachel Reeves ‘ Autumn Budget.
  • The scheme currently serves around 860,000 disabled drivers across the UK. The programme allows individuals to lease cars, wheelchair-accessible vehicles, scooters, and wheelchairs using their enhanced mobility allowance, explains the Express.
  • Starting this month (December), drivers will no longer have access to Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Lexus, and Mercedes-Benz vehicles through the scheme.
  • All coupĂ© and convertible models have also been removed from the scheme. Motorists are no longer able to place orders for these cars exiting the scheme as of December 1.
  • The Government also pledged that at least half of all vehicles leased through the Scheme each year will be British-built from 2035 onwards. Motability Operations is planning to collaborate closely with UK-based manufacturers to boost the proportion of British-built vehicles leased by customers.
  • Certain manufacturers could stand to gain from this plan, with the number of British-built Nissan vehicles expected to double, rising to around 40,000 models. The Japanese manufacturer has expressed its support for these changes.
