ASLEF members are to stage walkouts today across the nation affecting five major national rail services. The services affected by today’s strikes are: Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, London Northwestern Railway and West Midlands Railway with major commuter routes to and from London either cut completely or greatly reduced.

The industrial action was announced by the ASLEF union on March 20. Advice reads : “Services are also likely to be disrupted and start later on the day immediately following a full strike day. Passengers are warned to expect significant disruption and advised to plan ahead and check before you travel.”

The striking rain operators started an overtime ban on Thursday, April 4 which runs to Saturday, April 6, and on Tuesday, April 9. Officials say that, on the days where full strike action is taking place, there are likely to be ‘little or no services’ across large areas of the network.
