A live traffic map shows congestion is stretching back towards Heathrow Airport.
Drivers are facing gridlock from Denham back to junction 15 which connects to the M4, while long delays continue back to junction 14 at Heathrow Airport.
Delays are expected to continue throughout this afternoon.
