Live: Man in 80s fights for his life after London Overground station attack

A man in his 80s is fighting for his life in hospital after he was attacked at a London Overground station last night (Tuesday, July 16). Edmonton Green station was closed due to a police incident this morning (Wednesday, July 17).

Rush hour trains were cancelled as the stop was shut. Trains are now calling at Edmonton Green as normal.

A British Transport Police spokesperson told MyLondon: “British Transport Police received reports of an assault that took place at Edmonton Green railway station at around 9.53pm last night. Paramedics attended and a man in his 80s was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

“Enquiries are continuing at pace, and we will be carrying out increased high-visibility patrols in the area alongside the Metropolitan Police Service to provide reassurance. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident are asked to contact BTP by texting 61016, quoting reference 766 of 16 July.”

National Rail posted on X at 5.22am: “Police dealing with an incident at #EdmontonGreen means trains are currently unable to call at the station.”
