Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has finally arrived in London today and with it has brought significant disruption to train services. Trains on on e line won’t stop at Wembley Stadium National Rail station on Saturday 22 June and Sunday 23 June due to fears of overcrowding so the network will be slightly off-kilter all day.
Industrial action on some Northern Rail services will also affect northern city connecting trains today meaning key travel hubs down to London may be affected.
No Chiltern Railway trains will call at Wembley on Saturday and Sunday because there will be no direct service from Euston to Birmingham New Street due to unrelated engineering works. As a result, Chiltern Railways is running extra trains between Birmingham Moor Street and Marylebone so none of the trains going through Wembley Stadium station will run.
A Chiltern Railways spokesperson explained: “Unfortunately, it’s not possible for services to call at Wembley Stadium as well as providing the additional capacity needed between London Marylebone and Birmingham Moor Street. We’re sorry for the inconvenience this will cause.”
Trains across the Midlands connecting London will be packed with Swifties heading to the capital for the concert. No trains will call at Kings Sutton, Hatton and Lapworth on the route to London on Saturday 22 June and Sunday 23 June, while there also won’t be a service between Marylebone and Aylesbury Vale Parkway (via Amersham) all day. Rail replacement buses are available.
Due to industrial action by Northern Rail, key northern transport hubs down to London may be affected like Manchester Piccadilly, Stoke on Trent, Nottingham and Liverpool Central. These large stations could see crowds of swifties and delays as ASLEF union have announced ‘action short of a strike’ meaning short notice cancellations are likely.
The Tube is also due to be crowded with fans in the North West today as they make their pilgrimage to the show.
