A man is in a life-threatening condition in hospital following a horror crash during a police chase in the early hours of Saturday (June 15). At around 4.30am the Met Police were notified by Essex Police that they had officers chasing a car which had failed to stop on the M11.

The car then crashed into a barrier along the A406 North Circular Southbound before smashing through the barrier and leaving the carriageway. A Met Police spokesperson said nobody else was injured in the serious collision.

The A406 North Circular Southbound has been closed from A104 Woodford New Road (Waterworks Corner , South Woodford) to A12 Eastern Avenue (Redbridge Roundabout, Redbridge) for more than 10 hours now, as engineers carry out accident investigation work and barrier repairs. It has led to severe delays, so only head through if absolutely necessary and leave with plenty of time.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 4.31am on Saturday, June 15, the Met were notified by colleagues from Essex Police that they had initiated a pursuit after a vehicle had failed to stop along the M11, Essex. This then travelled into the Met area.

“Essex officers later confirmed the vehicle had collided with a barrier along the A406, before leaving the carriageway. The driver of that vehicle was taken to hospital where he remains in a life-threatening condition. No one else was injured.

“A scene – managed by the Met due to it being in our area – is in place. Met officers were not involved in the pursuit. Enquiries into the incident continue.” The London Ambulance Service (LAS) has been contacted for comment.
