Met Police officer hit by car while investigating Holloway Road ‘altercation’ as man arrested

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a police officer was hit by a car. The Metropolitan Police Service says that they were told of an ‘altercation’ involving the occupants of a vehicle in North London.

But, as an officer approached the car, it drove off and hit them. The driver then ran off before being arrested. Both they and the officer were taken to hospital.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “At approximately 7.40pm on Sunday, July 21, officers on patrol went to speak to the occupants of a car in Holloway Road, N1 after being flagged to an altercation involving the occupants. As the officer approached the car it drove off, colliding with the officer.

“The car was then involved in a collision in Navigator Square, N1 .The driver fled from the car but was arrested by officers on suspicion of attempted murder; he has been taken to hospital as a precaution.

“The officer who was struck by the car is not seriously injured. Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”
