Arsenal have been handed an indicator towards the staggering amount they might have to pay if attempting to complete the transfer of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa.
The chances of Mikel Arteta ‘s side getting their hands on the Premier League title last term were left bruised by constant injuries, keeping a number of attackers out of action or at least hampered in their ability to perform when returned. In response, the Gunners have ambitions to rectify their problems in the transfer market.
One of the Premier League’s brightest talents, Rogers, has found himself part of rumours speculating a switch from Villa Park to the Emirates Stadium.
Now an England international, the 22-year-old has made 54 appearances under Unai Emery with 15 goals and 14 assists.
To think, this all stemmed from Manchester City allowing an academy starlet to move on Middlesbrough in a reported £1.5m deal two years ago, with Villa pouncing for ten times that price just six months later.
Now, Arsenal themselves appear to have warning as to how much Rogers’ stock has risen in a further year-and-a-half.
The CIES Football Observatory ‘s latest estimated transfer values place the attacking midfielder’s price range between €96-124m (£82.8-107m). This has soared from the sums he has moved for in the past and also the previous month’s CIES estimate, which came in at €93-114m (£80.4m – £98.3m).
The Switzerland-based study considers many factors to provide their estimated transfer values, from real-life factors to those related to the player himself, but also those concerning his club.
In Villa’s regard, a major development came this week regarding the state of their finances.
The Midlands club were slapped with an unconditional €11m (£9.4m) fine by UEFA for a breach of the organisation’s financial regulations. This is made up of €5m (£4.3m) for failing to comply with football earnings rules and €6m (£5.1m) for breaching squad costs rules.
UEFA have come down hard on Villa, who last season competed in the Champions League and next season will be in the Europa League, and have issued a further warning over a possible conditional €5m (£4.3m) fine per year if they breach again in the next three years.
However, the news will not affect Villa’s long-term ambitions but they occur during a period of uncertainty surrounding the future of Rogers.
Selling the Englishman would provide a huge boost to Villa’s financial compliance and from that Arsenal could look to benefit too.
