Mrs Hinch’s cleaning enthusiasts have revealed a nifty trick for securing sparking clean and fresh skirting boards in just a matter of seconds – and it will only set you back by 4p

With the spring clean fast approaching, many Brits will be taking to their carpets and kitchens to achieve that sparkling shine – but many of us are neglecting our skirting boards.

In fact, a survey of 2,000 adults revealed that a majority of homeowners are “too busy” to clean their properties, with a third of respondents struggling to find time for housework. The study also found that wiping down skirting boards and cleaning windows were tasks that were most likely to be avoided when time is short.

It’s common for houses to have skirting boards, as they are used to protect the bottom of interior walls from general damage and furniture knocks. Fortunately, cleaning icon Mrs Hinch, whose full name is Sophie Hinchliffe, has shared her simple trick for scooping sparkling woodwork in just a matter of minutes.

Taking to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, one user reached out for advice on scrubbing the dreaded area. Fellow users were quick to respond with their helpful tips, and a large majority suggested using tumble dryer sheets.

One person penned: “Wet tumble dryer sheets. Using these makes the job so quick and easy.” Another posed: “Tumble dryer sheets catch and removes all the dust and leaves a light fragrance behind.”

As a third echoed: “Use tumble dryer sheets, I’ve found that they keep the dust away for longer.” Another agreed: “I use tumble dryer sheets. It works a treat,” as a fifth advised: “Whenever there’s dust on them I always use tumble dryer sheets. I swear by them.”

One more member wrote: “Tumble dryer sheets, you won’t regret it and your house will smell amazing.” The popular product is composed of liquid softeners, lubricants and fragrances, which works as an effective dust repellent.

Shoppers can pick up a pack of 35 tumble dryer sheets for £1.29 from Wilko, working out at 4p per sheet. They can also be bagged for £1.50 at B&M, also setting you back by around 4p.

If tumble dryer sheets aren’t on your shopping list this week, cleaning expert Charlene has shared her two-product trick for spotless skirting boards. Posting on TikTok, under the username @mumscleaninglockdownlife, the household guru said: “The best way to clean your skirting boards is to fill your Dishmatic with your favourite fabric conditioner.”

Using the hand-held sponge, Charlene applied a small amount of elbow grease to the frames, which left them sparking. She concluded: “The fabric conditioner smells amazing and repels dust.”
